Goldfins Make Waves at the Regina Marlins Spring Ice Breaker Swim Meet

In an event that heralded the thaw of spring and the dawn of new achievements, the Saskatoon Goldfins made a remarkable entrance at the 2026 Regina Marlins Spring Ice Breaker Development Swim Meet, held on March 29, 2026. With a roster of 18 determined athletes, the Goldfins surged through 101 Individual Events, leaving an indelible mark on the waters of Regina, SK.
Amidst the splashes and cheers, the Goldfins carved out 22 new Provincial Qualifying Time Standards, a testament to their dedication and prowess. A particular highlight of the meet was Isabel Burkholder from the Blue 1 Group, who achieved her inaugural Swim Saskatchewan Junior Provincial Qualifying Time Standard in the 50M Freestyle with an impressive time of 37.59.

Among the Goldfins, several swimmers achieved notable milestones, securing Saskatchewan Senior Provincial Long Course Qualifying Time Standards. These include:
Zeyah Flemming: 100 Backstroke, 200 Individual Medley, 100 Freestyle
An Nguyen: 200 Individual Medley
Brette White: 100 Freestyle
Dakota Wigness: 100 Fly, 50 Backstroke
For the Junior Provincial Long Course Qualifying Time Standards, achievements were made by:
Youssef Barakat: 50 Freestyle
Minau Burrows: 100 Backstroke, 100 Fly, 100 & 200 Freestyle
Zeyah Flemming: 100 Fly, 100 Breaststroke
Ariah Kent-Rodgman: 50 Breaststroke, 200 Freestyle
An Nguyen: 100 Backstroke, 200 Freestyle
Ella Reiter: 50 Breaststroke
Rhett Ruzesky: 200 Freestyle

The meet also saw the Goldfins achieving 67 Personal Best Long Course Times, with Isabel Burkholder reaching 100% personal best times, underscoring her commitment and consistent improvement.
In terms of most improved events, the Goldfins showcased exceptional growth:
Ariah Kent-Rodgman: 50 Fly, 28.6% improvement, "-16.41"
Kyle MacGillivray: 50 Fly, 25.3% improvement, "-14.82"
Isabel Burkholder: 50 Freestyle, 19.8% improvement, "-9.28"
An Nguyen further distinguished herself with a record-breaking performance, setting a new Swim Saskatchewan Girls 10 & Under Long Course Provincial Record in the 50M Breaststroke with a time of 39.79. This achievement not only shattered the previous provincial record from March 2017 but also surpassed her own Goldfins Long Course Club Record set earlier in January 2026.

The event was a resounding success, thanks in no small part to the hospitality of the Regina Marlins Swim Club and the invaluable support of the Goldfins parents who served as officials throughout the weekend. As the Goldfins continue to ride the waves of success, they are poised to compete next at the 2026 Bridge City Spring Classic, scheduled for April 16–19 in Saskatoon, SK.
