Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club Blows Through the 48th Chinook Invitational

The Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club made a splash at the 48th Chinook Invitational Swim Meet, held from April 25 to 27, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta. Competing with vigor and sportsmanship, the Goldfins showcased their exceptional talent and determination throughout the event.

Event Participation and Achievements

A dedicated team of 29 Goldfins swimmers participated in four sessions over the weekend, delivering impressive performances across various categories. Notably, six swimmers from the club achieved an outstanding 15 individual event podium finishes, highlighting the club’s competitive spirit and rigorous training.

Gold Medal Triumphs

The Goldfins celebrated multiple gold medal victories, with standout performances from:

  • Monica Liin in the 50 Fly
  • Naomi Liu in the 200 Individual Medley, 100 & 400 Freestyle, 50 Backstroke, and 100 Breaststroke

Silver Medal Successes

Adding to their accolades, the Goldfins swimmers also secured several silver medals:

  • Harper Bear in the 200 Freestyle
  • Naomi Liu in the 50 Breaststroke
  • Benjamin Nesteroff in the 100 & 200 Freestyle, and 100 Backstroke

Bronze Medal Achievements

Bronze medals were awarded to:

  • Sadie Burrows in the 50 Fly
  • Benjamin Nesteroff in the 400 Freestyle
  • Oliver Wruck in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke

 

Provincial Qualifying Times and Personal Bests

An exciting highlight of the meet was Cohen Veikle achieving his first Saskatchewan Senior Provincial Qualifying Time in the 50M Freestyle with a time of 33.82. Overall, the Saskatoon Goldfins swimmers attained 44 new provincial qualifying time standards, a significant milestone for the club.

The Goldfins swimmers attained 126 personal best short course times over the weekend, with eleven swimmers achieving 100% personal best long course times:  Josh Block, Summer Grajo, Zoe Liakopoulos, Aiden Sereda-Wosminity, Oliver Wruck and Ethan Zbytovsky showing significant improvements.

The Goldfins swimmers and coaches extend their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated chaperones, Jennifer Block, Dwight Grayston, and Jason Wosminity, for their unwavering support throughout the weekend. Gratitude is also extended to the Calgary Patriots for hosting such an exciting and well-organized competition.

Looking ahead, the Goldfins are set to compete at the Michelle Moore Invitational from May 9 to 11, 2025, at the Lawson Aquatic Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan. The team is eager to continue their racing momentum and achieve more remarkable results.
