Championship Success: Goldfins Earn 3 Bronze Medals!

The Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club achieved remarkable success at the 2024 Speedo Western Championships held in Winnipeg, MB from March 21 to 24, 2024. Abby Gebhardt shattered the longstanding Female Open 100M Breaststroke Long Course Club record set in 2013 with a remarkable time of 1:13.28, securing the Bronze medal in the Women’s 16 & Over category. Additionally, Abby clinched another Bronze medal in the 50M Breaststroke event with a time of 33.39.
Notably, Keiran Dyck also made a mark at this prestigious Canadian championship by claiming the Bronze medal in the Men’s 14 – 16 YR 400M Freestyle event with a time of 4:06.75.

At this championships swim meet, the Goldfins were represented by 14 swimmers: Sami Benning, Keiran Dyck, Abby Gebhardt, Nicole Godbout, Avery Houle, Claire Huber, Ian Genest, Holden Lees, Isabel Magus, Rebeka Mourre, Andrew Nghiem, Obi Nguyen, Jaclyn Szutiak, and BryceTierney.

Head Coach Steven Hitchings expressed his reflections on the team's recent successful participation. "Our weekend in Winnipeg for the Western Canadian Championships was truly exceptional," Hitchings remarked. He highlighted the swimmers' remarkable performances, achieving personal bests in multiple relays, setting a new Club record, and showcasing outstanding results in various events. Noteworthy achievements include Abby Gebardt and Keiran Dyck's podium finishes in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke, as well as the 400m Freestyle, marking the team's first medals post-pandemic. The camaraderie and mutual support demonstrated among team members during the event were particularly gratifying to witness.

 

Goldfins posted 11 personal bests while scoring 203 points: finishing 20th in the team standings.
