Goldfins WIN 2024 Man/SK Winter Provincial Championships
The Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club had a fantastic weekend at the 2024 Winter Man/SK Championships in Saskatoon, SK from March 7th to 10th, 2024. The Goldfins emerged as the Top Saskatchewan Large Club, securing 7476.5 points and clinching the first-place position overall in the championship swim meet. The Goldfins swimmers achieved remarkable milestones: 19 national-level qualifying time standards, 117 medals, 384 personal best long course times, and five Club long course records were broken. Head Coach Steven Hitchings expressed satisfaction with the Club’s performance and achievements.
During the Team’s post-meet celebration, Hitchings congratulated all Goldfins swimmers for their victories in both the Saskatchewan Junior Provincial and the Manitoba/Saskatchewan Senior Provincial Championships. He acknowledged the swimmers, coaches, and dedicated parents for their hard work and support. Hitchings thanked the Goldfins parents for their commitment to driving, officiating, and everything else they do to aid their swimmers and the Goldfins Swim Club.
Reflecting on the successful weekend, Hitchings emphasized the Man/SK Championships as an excellent swim meet and one of the top “team meets” in the country. He expressed pride in the Goldfins for hosting such a prosperous event and commended the swimmers for their unwavering effort in every race throughout the entire weekend.
Goldfins swimmers posted a number of new long course time standards at this championship meet. The Club posted 140 Senior Provincial Long Course Qualifying Time Standards, 36 Saskatchewan Junior Provincial Long Course Qualifying Time Standards, 10 Western Canadian Championships QT, 4 Canadian Junior Championships Qualifying Time Standards. Keiran Dyck, Jaclyn Szutiak and Bryce Tierney posted Swimming Canada Junior Trials Time Standards. Keiran and Bryce earned a birth to attend the 2024 Olympic Trials – May 2024, Montreal, QUE.
The Goldfins swimmers celebrated the breaking of Club long course records.
Goldfins Individual Club Records:
Jaclyn Szutiak broke the Girls 15 – 17 – 50M Backstroke record – 31.17 (July 17, 2006) set was formerly set by our Goldfins swimmer Alice DeCoteau. Jaclyn posted the record-breaking time of 31.06 in her Provincial Relay leg. Abby Gebhardt broke a record (33.38) that dates back to 2009 in the Girls Open 50M Breaststroke. Abby’s bettered this record by posting a time of 33.32.
Goldfins Relay Club Records:
- The Goldfins 12 & U A Relay Team, consisting of Piper Lejbak, Ava Gursky, Carsyn Busa, and Gracie Munshaw, set a new Goldfins Long Course Club 200M Freestyle Relay record at 2:04.67, winning the Gold Medal. This broke a record previously posted in July 2017 - 2:04.80)
- The Goldfins 15 & Over Female 200M Freestyle A Relay Team broke the previous record of 1:51.76 (July 2023) with a time of 1:51.76, securing the Silver medal with Jaclyn Szutiak, Kendra Chernoff, Victoria Darling, and Isabel.
- The Goldfins Female 200M Medley A Relay Team, comprised of Jaclyn Szutiak, Abby Gebhardt, Isabel Magus, and Victoria Darling, set a new Club record at 2:02.05, surpassing the previous record of 2:02.88 (2023).
The Goldfins Swim Club swept the Saskatchewan Provincial High Point Age Group Awards:
Male 13 & Under: Noah Findlay, 14 – 15: Kian Wu, 16 & Over: Keiran Dyck
Noah Findlay and Keiran Dyck also took home the championships Overall Individual High Point Awards in their respective age groups.
