Goldfins Win the 2024 Large Club Title at the 2024 Saskatchewan Junior Provincial Championships

February 28, 2024

The Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club splashed their way to victory at the Saskatchewan Junior Provincial Championships in Moose Jaw, SK, from February 23 to 25, 2024. They racked up an impressive 2118.5 Total Team Points, clinching the 2024 Swim Saskatchewan Junior Short Course Provincial Championships Large Club Award.

The Goldfins Swim Club proudly welcomed two new members to their Senior Provincial Team. Sidney Goodwin and Phillip Shorte have qualified to compete in the upcoming Man/SK Senior Provincial Championships in March 2024. Sidney achieved her first Swim Saskatchewan AA Time Standard in the 50M Freestyle with a time of 35.03 (Relay Lead Off), while Phillip secured his first qualifying time standard in the 200M Individual Medley with a time of 2:53.01. The Goldfins also celebrated other swimmers who achieved their first Saskatchewan Junior Provincial Time Standards. Gillian Grayston and Zoe Gursky each met three Saskatchewan A Short Course Qualifying Time Standards during the event. Gillian's qualifying times were in the 200M Individual Medley (3:29.74), 50M Backstroke (45.25), and 200M Backstroke (3:22.86). Zoe also achieved Short Course A Qualifying Times in the 50M Backstroke (45.39), 200M Backstroke (3:23.71), and 50M Freestyle (39.17).

"The Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club demonstrated an impressive performance at the 2024 Swim Saskatchewan Junior Provincial Championships," remarked Jennifer Robinson, Head Development Coach of the Goldfins. She emphasized that the event provided a valuable platform for the youngest Goldfins members to showcase their skills and strive for podium finishes. This competition marked the debut of many swimmers in racing for rankings rather than solely focusing on improving their times. Witnessing the joy on the swimmers' faces as they received their first medals made this particular event a standout and unforgettable experience of the swim season."
